ABOUT NORTHWEST BLIND GOLF FOUNDATION

In September of 2003 the United States Blind Golf Association held their national championship at my home course, OGA, in Tukwila, Oregon. This would be my first blind golf event since losing part of my vision, but it would not be the last. I’ve been fortunate to win the U.S. National b3 title the past four years.

Prior to losing my vision I was an educator in the Beaverton School District working with special needs children. With my background in education and my love for the game of golf I wanted to do something locally to help boys and girls with limited vision become acquainted with the game of golf.

In 2004 I began organizing golf clinics attended by students from the Oregon and Washington Schools for the Blind as well as public school students from around the state. By April of that year I began working with visually challenged students at The Children’s Course in association with The First Tee Program.

In 2007 I helped organize and/or participate in weekly classes at The Children’s Course as well as summer sports camp for the United States Association of Blind Athletes. The big finale at the end of the year was a golf clinic at The Reserve

Vineyard and Golf Club in association with a charity golf event hosted by the Oregon Lions Sight and Hearing Foundation.

I thoroughly enjoy helping young boys and girls learn more about the game of golf and how it can enhance their lives regardless of their visual impairment. My intentions are to make this my life work.

With the assistance of many friends I established a 501c3 foundation called The Northwest Blind Golfers Foundation. We received non-profit status on May 31, 2006 (EIN 87-0734159) from the IRS.

All funds donated to the foundation will be used to support our commitment to junior golf and to help bring the game back to adults who have lost all or some of their vision.

If you have any questions about the NWBGF or blind golf in generally please contact me.

Regards,

Ron Plath, President

On a local level we try to follow the motto of the United States Blind Golf Association:
“You Don't Have To See It, To Tee It!”
